Rearcross U-12's lost out to Ardcroney on a 4-2 score line in atrocious weather conditions in Rearcross last Saturday and would have been a lot further behind at the full time whistle but for an outstanding display by Rearcross goalkeeper Cathal Kennedy. The game was only two minutes old when the heavens opened and match referee David Butler had little option but to call a halt to proceedings. Play resumed some minutes later and it was the home side that showed the early dominance with a Stephen Rochford effort not far away. The hosts hit the front in the eight minute when Cian O'Toole released to Patrick Dawson who fired low to the back of the net. Rearcross continued to press and doubled their tally on the ten minute mark when Colm Lenihan got behind the Ardcroney defence to prod inside the post with a well taken goal. The lead was short-lived however as a handball infringement saw Colm Fogarty blast to the corner of the net with a well struck free kick from just outside the box. The visitors took over after this and got back level when Colm Fogarty got his second of the day with a left footed rasper to the back of the net. Ardcroney would have been 5-2 up at half time but for three superb saves from Cathal Kennedy. The underfoot conditions were more favoured to a physically stronger Ardcroney outfit in in the second period with Cathal Kennedy again very much to the fore with a string of fine saves. Indeed, Rearcross might have snatched an unlikely lead when Stephen Rochford's shot was on target midway through the half, however the Ardcroney custodian made a fine block before Patrick Dawson's effort from close range finished in the side netting. Ardcroney took the lead with four minutes remaining when Mike Houlihan blasted to the roof of the net from out on the left. It was game, set and match a minute from time when Cormac Doheny headed home at the back post to leave Rearcross deflated at the full time whistle. The home side will regroup and get ready for next league outing. Get well soon to Danny Poyzer who is in hospital recovering from an appendix operation.
